UPSC CSE Syllabus 2025 – Preliminary Examination
The CSE Prelims is the first stage and is qualifying in nature. It comprises two papers:
Paper 1: General Studies (GS-I)
- History of India and Indian National Movement
- Indian and World Geography – Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World
- Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
- Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
- Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity, and Climate Change – General issues, no subject specialization required
- General Science

Negative Marking: Yes (1/3rd for each incorrect answer)
Paper 2: CSAT (GS Paper II)
